I bet you
were wondering why I went to London …
I kinda
sort of (yes I’m aware that both those expressions mean the same thing) kicked
off for a while, but my (magazine)addiction has recently gone to severe heights
again (poor wallet of mine). Just the other day I discovered my new favourite
magazine PAUSE. I found – bought – read the spring/summer issue and I just fell
in love with it. It was sooo refreshingly real, unpretentious (even though I
love my hint of pretence in life) and it felt like… well.. like finally someone
understood me (the ’90ies shoot was beyond fresh) and my sense of fashion. So I
went online to connect with the brand and all that, and to my surprise saw that
they were about to launch the next issue with a special event the week after.
Needless to
say I got myself on the list and bought a ticket to go to London for the day, JUST for this event. I
mean, it’s not like I haven’t gone to London for 24 hours just to party before (#adidasunderground),
so it’s really not THAT big of a deal. I did miss one class, but, you know..
YOLO! (it really is the only way to express the ridiculousness of this trip
hahaha)
There we
were, Tess Jessica de Boer and myself, standing at the door and trying to
explain to this guy that my name is Richenny Ryfa Felicia hahahah. It took a
couple of minutes for him to even recognise the sound (of course the way that
you pronounce my name is nothing like a regular sounding English word) and know
what to look for on his list, but eventually he found it. (he was actually
really laid back. We should fly over these Brits to man-the-door at events here
in Amsterdam . 4 real!!)
Obviously I
was trying to do a million and one things in a period of time that did not
allow that, but I somehow managed. Except for the fact that we arrived
fashionable late (I mean it wasn’t over or anything, but we could have been a
little bit earlier). But it was still cool. The vibe was really chill, there
was a crazy stylish crowd (dressed in fashion that I of course love to see, yet
don’t get to see often enough in the streets of Amsterdam ), there was a live presentation and
of course there were the usual suspects in the form of drinks and music.
So when you’re
late, you totally miss out on goody bags. Luckily, some people do know how the
issue of time works, and our Friend Reggie, who is currently working for Volt,
was there early with her colleague and she had an extra copy of the new issue of PAUSE to
spare (which is the only thing I was dieing to get my hands on really, so God
bless her generous soul – and forgive me for not remembering her name :s) so I
was as happy as a little kid in a candy store. I read the whole thing cover to
cover on my travel back to Holland , and decided that it was definitely
worth the trip. I should call them up and see if I can do a little sum’ sum’
with them in the future or something. (After all I travel all over Europe for fashion, so plenty of stuff to
write about if you ask me)
(I tend to get caught up in
the moment and enjoy being there, rather than capture every second on film. So every image you see up here actually belongs to PAUSE)
P.S.: Yes, I
know you want to know what else I did while in London , but you’re just going to have to
come back for that story J.
